Hello – I’m Lj. Welcome to The Book Chapter Times – a little book corner to chart my reading lists through time and share book ideas.
I have always loved books and learning, but I would not describe myself as a bookworm or an avid reader. However, I can say that commuting by train, converted and bonded me, to the joy of reading, as a lifelong pastime. Now, I miss not having a book in my life, if it is absent. That little piece of regular time that you carve out amongst your ‘everyday’ to travel the world, enter fantasy lands and others’ lives, to live vicariously from your hammock, rocking chair, armchair or bed.
Not being a ‘versatile’ reader I am quite selective over the books I read. I like my choice of book to be:
- of interest to me,
- pleasurable to read and not a struggle and
- compelling.
My favourite childhood book is Matilda, by Roald Dahl, followed closely by Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Roald Dahl conveyed such a playfulness and youthfulness through his writing, creating an easy and engaging connection with many young readers. I admired his enticing language and inventive writing style that combined to create such magical stories. I also enjoyed Little Women by Louisa M. Alcott and remember Anne Frank’s Diary being one of the first books that I read that made me cry. A favourite of my teenage years was Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen.
Like music, I feel that the books that you read transport you back to the time and season in your life when you were reading them. To this end, I have decided to record my feelings and reactions to books at the time I read them, to chart my reading lists through time and create a space to share and discuss book recommendations.
My latest reads can be found on the blog feed here and my previous reading log can be found on my reading timeline here.
Happy reading!
